One Huge Mud Run - Scribbletime CSRA Sports Photographer

If you are participating in a sporting event...especially one that requires months of training and preparation...you really should consider taking along a photographer to get some action shots of your team during the big event.

When my husband ran the Honolulu Marathon, he ended up with 1 measly picture to show for it. That's the only time in his life he'll ever run that event and the poor guy only has a single unflattering picture to show for all his effort.

And so I was there this past weekend when the largest mud run event in North America took place in South Carolina. With over 15,000 participants, it was definitely one crazy and busy day. It was so busy that I almost completely missed one of my teams; luckily I caught up with them at the mud pits.

The mud pits were r-o-u-g-h! It was like quicksand. There was a sea of people swimming at the pace of turtles in the thick mud. They couldn't get anywhere fast and they couldn't get out of the pits by themselves. All of them had to be "rescued" to escape the grip of the mud. Leave it to the United States Marine Corps to transform something this nasty and yucky into a ton of fun!

And so, mud runs sure are growing on me because they really are super fun! It amazes me that anyone can endure 4 miles of muddy obstacles, and I completely admire these women for keeping up with the guys through it all! I'm serious, they ended up with more mud on them than the guys. ha!

Of course, it's easy to say that mud runs are fun when I'm not the one getting muddy! Okay, I did get a little bit muddy, but nothing compared to this poor lady who FELL INTO THE MUD PIT! She was waist deep and had to be rescued. I heard someone say "the camera lady fell into the mud", and I couldn't resist taking a picture. I sure wish I knew who she was so she could see this...

Congratulations to all the teams! And if you want some cool shots of your next mud run, let me know!

Golf Anyone? - Augusta, Georgia Golf Photographer

Babies and golf...those are my two favorite subjects to photograph!

So you can imagine how happy I was to cover the American Legion golf tournament this weekend. My husband loves to golf, and I've grown very fond of the sport myself. By the way, I have to brag on my hubby...he won a trophy last weekend at a -very small- tournament in South Georgia called the "Outhouse Invitational". He brought home an outhouse trophy! Okay, so it's not so glamorous....but I was very excited for him!!

I think one reason I like to photograph golf so much (especially Augusta golf tournaments) is because tournaments are events that can't be repeated exactly the same way. All the unique interactions that happen on the golf course are so much fun to capture. And rarely do golfers get to have nice shots of them actually in the middle of playing.

So, I feel like I'm part of something special. And this weekend's tournament was very special indeed because it was another opportunity for me to support our military and our veterans. My husband and I are in the process of becoming American Legion members, which most of you playing the tournament may not know! (I was Navy & my husband served in the Marine Corps)

I arrived before the sun came up, and there was such a buzz of activity. The American Legion members were busy getting everything set up, and I had some time to snap some shots before jumping on my golf cart to start the day.

Once the sun came up, the golfers began arriving and it was ON! I had a great time meeting every person who played in the tournament, and it was just a great thrill each time I snapped the shutter to capture a great shot. I could go on and on about how much I love to photograph golf, but I probably don't have to say it any more.

To the American Legion tournament players, your images are now available. If you have any questions, problems, or if you don't see something you're looking for, just shoot me an email. sharon@scribbletime.com

Thanks guys and gals for a fun day!

Showing Off Her 3 Month Skills! -Augusta Ga Baby & Family Photographer

It's just so amazing to me how time flies after you become a new parent. The first year of a baby's life is marked by some very substantial changes and milestones. This weekend I had the absolute pleasure of spending some time with little Baby A and her family to document her 3 month milestone. At 3 months, a baby's neck muscles are developed enough to hold their head up while laying on their tummy.

Practicing "tummy time" helps develop the muscles needed to achieve this milestone. Here she is on her tummy showing off her 3 month skills!!

Her mommy bought the petticoat for her to wear during all her first year milestone sessions and her vision is to make a petticoat storyboard. I LOVE that idea.

I can't wait to do her 6 month petticoat pictures! The 6 month milestone is sitting up unassisted. Some babies that age may not be able to sit up for long periods of time without getting wobbly, but they definitely can do it long enough for my shutter to catch the milestone! Until next time, Baby A!

Ft. Gordon Maternity Photographer -Long Distance Love -

When this mommy contacted me from Illinois to do her maternity pictures, I was flattered. I mean really...don't they have photographers in Illinois? haha!!!

But actually, she was coming to Fort Gordon to visit her hubby, who is stationed here until the end of the year. If you know anything about me, you know that I absolutely love our military members.

Since there are so many photographers to choose from in the Augusta area, and I am very honored that she chose Scribbletime for her maternity session.

This is probably the most photographed spot in downtown Augusta!!

She told me she wanted to have some headshots (minus the belly) of her and her husband done because they didn't have pictures done when they got married. In fact, they haven't had professional pictures made in the entire 1+ year they've been married (him being deployed and then stationed here probably has a lot to do with that!). So, that's why there isn't a big belly in this shot....

I believe that the best props...especially the best maternity and newborn props...are the ones that actually belong to the baby. Bringing something from home just make the pictures a little more special. But when you're traveling from Illinois to see your hubby, packing baby items is the last thing on your mind! I brought some balloons for the session, but since I'm not much of a balloon fan, here's another "prop" picture. I'm a minimalist anyway, so to me this is much better than balloons...

I usually only include 3 shots from each session on the blog, so I've gone completely overboard with this one. Here are a couple "extras" from the end of our session. I've realized that just because a session is done, it doesn't actually mean completely done because there are always more moments to capture.

And oh boy, this is a perfect example of "capturing a moment", especially when we all thought we were done. Just as soon as we wrapped up the session, I looked over at them and what I saw just broke my heart!

They were sitting on the bench silently gazing down, completely lost in a close moment. Perhaps they were both thinking about their short time together and how they were about to be apart again. It's as if they just wanted that little moment of closeness to last.

So, here it is....definitely a moment captured!

Birthday Girls - Augusta, Georgia Photographer

What a fun afternoon I had with these two sisters who have birthdays very close together. Their mommy and I met downtown to get their 1 year and 3 year old pictures, and the weather turned out to be very mild...perfect for pictures and Mexican food (because taking pictures works up an appetite!!).

One thing I love about 1 year old babies....they have the cutest little tummies that poke out. And this 1 year old also has the cutest crab crawl ever!

But crab crawling is rough on the knees....I was trying to catch a portrait style picture that included the sweet little boo-boo on her knee. These are the types of blemishes that definitely don't need to be edited from a picture!

And what I wouldn't give to be 3 again...you get to have tons of fun with all that 3 year old energy! She's such a sweet little ball of fire, and I just adore her. It was such a pleasure to take these pictures, and I really did have a lot of fun!

Turning Five Together! - Augusta, Georgia Photographer

Wouldn't it be so cool to spend all your birthdays with your best buddy? This brother and sister (yes, twins) just turned 5 together! They do everything together...including sports! And they weren't afraid to lean over the edge of the boardwalk to look for bugs side by side.

I love shooting at this boardwalk because it makes such a nice backdrop. I can definitely envision this one as a huge print or canvas in the living room. Such sweet faces!

I usually only like to show pictures of kiddos, but seriously, I couldn't resist sharing this one on the Scribbletime blog. Ahhhh.....love!

Babies Rule! - Augusta, Georgia Photographer

This little guy hung out at the library for his 3 month session (my favorite spot for that age!). I was happy to witness his first trip to the library, although he didn't read any books or actually go inside! I think he really liked my suitcase because he stayed on top of it without being too wobbly for a lot longer than I thought he would.

In case you didn't know, babies rule my world....literally! They are the ones who dictate how a shoot will go, and how long/short it will last! By the time we changed to our last location, he was DONE! After a little snack, he was ready for a nap instead of holding out for more pictures. I had to giggle at this shot of his mommy and daddy trying to wake him up so we could squeeze in just a few more!
