Flash Comparison - Augusta, Ga Child Photographer

If you're looking for
a really simple way to improve your picture taking ability immediately, it's as easy as turning off your flash whenever possible.

You may already have heard this basic nugget of information, but you might not realize just how much of an improvement using natural light makes, so I took two pictures with a very simple consumer grade (not fancy) DSLR camera to show you a comparison. These pictures were taken at the same distance with everything being the same on the auto setting, except I turned the dial to no flash in the second picture:

Notice that the flash makes the background dark even though there was plenty of sunshine filtering through the curtain. These pictures are both straight out of the camera, so all the differences you see are caused because of flash.

Oh, and I think my daughter might have been hanging on for dear life in the first picture because the tips of her fingertips look like all circulation has been cut off! But other than that...the other part of her hand is actually washed out directly from the harsh flash and not from lack of blood flow.

So, start looking for the places inside your house that have the best natural light and then experiment with (and fully embrace) taking pictures with no flash. Pay attention to the time of day when you get the best pictures in certain spots inside your house, and how far away you can get from the natural light and still get good, sharp results. I'll talk about using flash in future tips, but for now just try turning off that flash as much as possible and see what happens.

Just a side note, whenever I give helpful parent tips, I'll usually use the Nikon D40 because if you have your own DSLR, yours is probably equivalent or BETTER, so the examples I use will be realistic and SIMPLE...you can easily get similar results using your own DSLR. And if you don't have a DSLR, I strongly urge you to get one....Mother's Day is fast approaching, ya know!

Happy Snapping! -Sharon :)

Wee-Ball (Intro to T-Ball): Columbia County Sports Photographer

Scribbletime is proud to be a wee-ball team sponsor for the Martinez Evans Little League (M.E.L.L.)!!

I definitely have a thing for sports photography...especially when the players are this adorable! Here are some shots from the first scrimmage of the season...when most of the batters tried to run to 3rd base first, and they pretty much all had to swing quite a few times before making contact with the ball. But who is keeping score when they're this young?!! Still, catching these young players in action makes it seem like they are old pros at the game...

But for me, the absolute sweetest pictures are the ones that show the little things that happen before and after the game...such as a player picking flowers to give to his daddy. Moments like this...taking a minute to smell flowers in a baseball uniform in front of teammates...are definitely NOT going to happen 10 years from now!!

If only all the players could color coordinate their equipment like this...PINK bat, PINK glove, and PINK shoes:

And for me, it just doesn't get any cuter than this:

Little Brother - Augusta, Ga Baby Photographer

My day started by hanging out with a family who has a fairly new addition. Here's a preview of their sweet little fellow and his big brother (who was more interested in taking the pictures than having his picture taken)!

All the excitement was just a little much for this sweet 2 month old baby...he conked out towards the end enough to take a nap in my itty bitty wagon, and he even started to drift off as his big brother was playing the guitar next to him (in his daddy's Dallas Cowboys cap by the way!!!). It was a great start to the weekend. Thank you for letting me into your home!

Happy Baby! -Augusta, Ga Baby Photographer

The last time I saw this cutie pie, he was a newborn. It was such a pleasure seeing how much he has grown since January and how happy he is! My favorite picture from the session is this one....his mommy and daddy were giving him kisses and he closed his eyes enjoying all the sugars he was getting. You can tell by the slight smile on his face that he completely loved this little moment.

I brought a baby-sized suitcase hoping he would let us prop him up on it and give a little smile. Instead, he tried to eat my suitcase!! He was so adorable as he inspected the suitcase to make sure it was worthy to chew on! See ya at 6 months little guy!!!

Turning One! -Augusta, Ga Baby Photographer

This sweetheart is officially one! He loves playing with his cars (big and little), and he certainly takes playing very seriously. Happy birthday little guy!

There's something you need to know about me and what I like to photograph during a session....I definitely think there just aren't enough pictures of baby feet in the world! For babies and small kiddos, I try to get at least one foot shot because little feet are so stinkin cute! Once they turn about 4 years old, little feet start getting bigger and aren't as cute in pictures anymore.

Only 24 Hours Old! - Augusta, Georgia Newborn Photographer

He had only been in the world for about 24 hours when I got to do his newborn pictures at the hospital. Talk about new...what an honor! He was a sweet and precious subject, and very popular too! Many visitors came to see this little guy after he made his grand entrance...what a popular kiddo! For me, the greatest pleasure in the world is the opportunity to capture those little hands and feet while they are the smallest they will ever be. Congratulations to the proud parents of this beautiful baby boy!

Turning One! - Augusta, Ga Baby Photographer

First birthday parties are the best. It's the only time you get your very own birthday cake that you don't have to share with anyone else. And no one expects you to use utensils...just dig in with your hands...or toes! The messier, the better. This little guy went through a few changes of clothes during his birthday party! Happy birthday!
